Nansha port in Guangzhou is building a large storage and handling system, seeking greater capacity to hold more than 200,000 tons of cement.

The project started construction at the end of June and takes up about 24,000 square meters of yard area at Berth 1# of the Nansha Grain and General Cargo Terminal. It is expected to expand the terminal’s cement storage capacity and increase its dusty cargo throughput to 5.5 million tons per year.

The system adopts fully enclosed warehouses and air slide conveyors to store and transport cement and powder material, which can minimize air and water pollution as well as reduce noises at the terminal.

A full set of specialized equipment for cement handling is an important part of the system, which includes ship loaders and unloaders, measuring devices, bucket elevators and cement bale breaking and bagging machines. Power substations will also be set up to provide stable energy flows for the system’s operation.

Construction on the system will take half a year to complete, with investment totaling 294 million yuan. The system will enable Nansha port to offer more professional services related to cement warehousing and logistics with higher quality for its customers.
